Previously on Lenka’s diary: I found my favourite place in the whole world – Siena.
The final official stop was Udine. I had never even heard of it before, and I chose it as a necessary stop, so I really didn’t know what to expect. Turns out, not that much, but not that little either. Thinking back, it might have been really nice, but after going there from Siena, I just couldn’t be impressed.
Udine felt like another Renaissance Italian city, but a northern one. This is quite important, as it has completely different energy to it. And there were many churches there. In my travel diary, I wrote that they looked… not the best from the outside, but the inside…! I think this was the time I fell in love with frescoes for real.
I think that at this point I was a little tired from all the constant travelling, so I wasn’t in the best mood. Luckily for me, on one of our hot-girl-walks with my mom, we saw little ducklings! I love ducks, so that was an instant mood boost. Unfortunately, the stream they were in was full of rubbish.
I know that this article so far is not exciting at all. That’s because I didn’t feel excited about the last stop and I was waiting for the day to go home. But then, something happened. We had to change trains in Villach, Austria, but we had two hours to spare. So we decided to walk to the town to kill some time. That was the best decision of the whole trip!
Villach is a rather small town in the Alps and it’s absolutely a hidden gem, if nothing else, for the most calming, loveliest river I’ve seen in my life, the river Drava. It was the most interesting greenish-blueish colour and I could spend ages watching it. If my curious mom who wanted to see the rest of the town hadn’t been there, that’s exactly what I would’ve done. Well, the pictures say it all, don’t they…
So, after hours and hours of travelling, we got home safe. All there is left to say is that it was a life-changing experience and I’m thankful to have been able to take part. ♥
